Alexander Lapshin refutes suicide attempt in Azerbaijani prison

Blogger Alexander Lapshin has called an attempt of a murder an incident in the Baku prison, which the Azerbaijani authorities presented as a suicide attempt.

Alexander Lapshin called the report about his suicide attempt "an Azerbaijani official lie."

The "Caucasian Knot" that on September 11, the President of Azerbaijan signed a resolution to pardon Alexander Lapshin, sentenced on July 20 to three years of imprisonment on the charge of illegally crossing the country's border. After release from custody, Alexander Lapshin was brought to a hospital. According to the Azerbaijani authorities, he committed a suicide attempt.

"At night on September 11, 2017, when I was already falling asleep in my cell in the Baku prison, suddenly there was a creak of a key in the door, and the door opened slightly. Some people grabbed me by the neck, hands and then I felt several strokes in my side. I do not remember anything else," wrote Alexander Lapshin in his LiveJournal on September 15. And he added: "I recovered consciousness already at a resuscitation ward of the Baku central clinic."

According to the blogger's assumption, "the killers were scared off or their goal was aimed more at discrediting the Ilham Aliev's power in Azerbaijan." "My death in the Baku prison would work in favour of a number of people from the closest associates of President Ilham Aliev. Some of them undoubtedly believe it is time for him to rest," notes Alexander Lapshin in his post "How they were killing me in the Baku prison on September 10, 2017."

In Israel, Alexander Lapshin underwent a medical examination, according to which "medical officers indicated that the nature of some injuries resembled physical violence rather than a suicide attempt," the blogger emphasizes.
