Lezginka dancer transferred to Pyatigorsk hospital

Salim Akhobekov, detained for dancing lezginka in Gelendzhik for five days, has been transferred to the hospital in Pyatigorsk. Physicians suspect that the man was poisoned by gas sprayed during his detention. Angela Maxidova, an injured eyewitness of the lezginka dancers' detention, still stays in the hospital.

According to an advocate of Salim Akhobekov, a criminal case has been instituted against his client, who was earlier hospitalized to the Nalchik hospital.

Salim Akhobekov needed specialized medical assistance, reported Valery Khatazhukov, the leader of the Kabardino-Balkarian Regional Human Rights Centre (HRC).

Angela Maxidova, an eyewitness of the incident, said she stayed in Gelendzhik for vacation and heard people speaking her native speech at a cafe. According to the woman, she together with other spectators was clapping the lezginka dancers.

Earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has reported that the young people failed to obey to the lawful requests of policemen to produce their IDs and rendered resistance.

The lawyers interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" have criticized the actions of the policemen in Gelendzhik. According to Circassian activists, the policemen who detained the young people should be brought to responsibility, since the dancers did not violate the law.
