In Dagestan, magistrate judge sentenced
Svetlana Baranova, a former judge of the magistrate precinct No. 120 for the Kizlyar District, accused of an attempted fraud, was sentenced to two years of conditional imprisonment. The magistrate judge pleaded not guilty and announced her intention to appeal against the verdict.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in May 2015, the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) instituted a criminal case against Svetlana Baranova. According to investigators, in October 2014, in Kizlyar, the judge got 50,000 roubles from a local resident to stop an administrative case against a driver detained for driving a car in a state of alcoholic intoxication.
On March 9, the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan found Svetlana Baranova guilty of an attempted fraud and sentenced her to two years of conditional imprisonment with a probation period of 1.5 years and a fine in the amount of 40,000 roubles. The former judge is also deprived of the right to hold office in the judicial system for three years.
The defendant pleaded not guilty. The former judge stated that she became a defendant in the criminal case because she found a falsification of an examination during the consideration of a case of copyright infringement. Svetlana Baranova claims that she was subjected to pressure to return the case to the Prosecutor's Office, but she refused. Svetlana Baranova announced her intention to appeal to the Russian Supreme Court to challenge the verdict, the "Chernovik" (Draft) reports.
