Khaiser Djemilev released from Astrakhan penal colony
Khaiser Djemilev, a son of Mustafa Djemilev, one of the leaders of the Crimean Tatar movement, is released from the Astrakhan penal colony IK-10 after he had served his sentence in the case of involuntary manslaughter of a family friend.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 10, 2015, the Krasnodar Regional Court sentenced Khaiser Djemilev to five years of imprisonment on the charge of involuntary manslaughter of Fevzi Edemov, a family friend, and theft and possession of weapons. After the appeal, the sentence to Khaiser Djemilev was reduced to 3.5 years of imprisonment.
According to the defence, the trial in the Khaiser Djemilev's case was an attempt to put pressure on his father Mustafa Djemilev, the former head of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis. Mustafa Djemilev lives in Kiev and is the Ukrainian presidential envoy for affairs of the Crimean Tatar people.
Khaiser Djemilev has been released today. At the FGI (federal government institution) IK-10, he was met by his advocate, mother, wife, and consuls of Ukraine, reports the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
According to advocate Nikolai Polozov, Khaiser Djemilev was again placed to a ShIZO (punishment cell) till the morning of November 25. "During the period of time spent by Khaiser Djemilev at the IK-10, he was subjected to 24 penalties, and most of them involved placement to a punishment cell. In total, he spent more than 250 days in isolation at the penal colony. It is a violation of the law, since a prisoner cannot be placed for more than six months within a calendar year," Nikolai Polozov explained to journalists.
