Sources revealed details of the attack on a police officer in Gudermes.

The attacker on the police officer in Gudermes turned out to be a 24-year-old local resident suffering from a mental illness. His relatives were detained after the attack but were later released, sources reported. They did not see any political motive or connection to the underground in the actions of the attacker.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", in the evening of September 7, a man armed with a knife attacked a police officer in the center of Gudermes and was himself injured. After the attack, security forces began detaining his relatives and acquaintances. Residents interviewed by "Caucasian Knot" reported that the attacker had mental health issues. Official agencies in Chechnya did not comment on the incident.

The attack was preceded by a discharge from a psychiatric hospital

The attacker on the police officer suffers from a mental illness and had been discharged from a psychiatric hospital on the day of the incident, political scientist Ruslan Kutaev* told a correspondent of "Caucasian Knot".

A mentally ill person stabbed one police officer, and the police officer shot him in the leg.

"He really suffers from a mental illness and was in a psychiatric hospital. Moreover, on that day he was discharged from there and was heading home. There were two police officers on duty. Word for word, a heated conversation arose between them. This mentally ill person stabbed one police officer, and the police officer shot him in the leg," Kutaev* said.

According to him, after the incident, both the attacker and the injured police officer were hospitalized. "Both are currently in the hospital. As far as I know, they were taken to Gudermes Hospital, and both remain there for now," the political scientist said.

Kutaev* identified the attacker as a resident of the village of Koshkeldy in the Gudermes district.

Another source of "Caucasian Knot" reported that the man's name is Dzhambulak Tasuyev, he is about 24 years old, and he lives in the area of Ichkeria Street (the organization is recognized as terrorist and banned in Russia) in Gudermes.

The exact whereabouts of Tasuyev after the attack, according to the source, are currently unknown.

Sources reported the release of Tasuyev's relatives

Kutaev* confirmed previously received information about the detention of the attacker's relatives, but reported that all of them were subsequently released.

"His relatives were indeed taken, but then they were released. As far as I know, there are no further consequences for them; this story did not continue," the political scientist said.

The release of all detained relatives of Tasuyev was also confirmed by a second source of "Caucasian Knot". According to him, almost all those detained among Tasuyev's acquaintances and people somehow connected to him were also released.

"We cannot specify the exact number," he clarified.

There is no information about the use of physical pressure on the detainees or about any conditions being imposed for their release, the source said.

Earlier, sources reported the detention of relatives and acquaintances of the attacker, but the exact number of people taken to the security forces was not specified. There was also no information about any charges being brought against any of them.

Sources disagreed on the reasons for the conflict

Kutaev* corrected his earlier assumption about the domestic background of the incident. According to him, the additional information he received does not allow considering the attack as a domestic conflict.

"This is not even about a domestic conflict. A person with a mental illness can behave inadequately anywhere," he concluded.

A second source of "Caucasian Knot", an administrator of an opposition Telegram channel to the Chechen authorities, provided another version of the circumstances of the attack. According to him, the version of a domestic conflict is indeed being discussed among Tasuyev's circle. According to this version, the cause of the incident could have been a conflict between police officers and Tasuyev's sister, after which she called her brother.

No connection to the underground or political motive is traced.

"Allegedly, the officers were bothering his sister, she called her brother, and they had a verbal spat. After that, he went for a knife and attacked the police officer. No connection to the underground or political motive is traced," the source reported.

The versions of the sources of "Caucasian Knot" regarding the circumstances preceding the attack differ. According to Kutaev*, Tasuyev, after being discharged from the psychiatric hospital, encountered two officers on duty, a verbal spat arose between them, after which the man stabbed one of them. According to the version discussed in Tasuyev's circle, the conflict was preceded by inappropriate behavior of police officers towards his sister, after which Tasuyev came to them and used a knife during the conflict.

At the same time, none of the interlocutors of "Caucasian Knot" reported any data indicating a connection between the attack and armed underground or a political motive.

Information about the death of the police officer has not been confirmed

Earlier, one of the sources reported that a seriously injured law enforcement officer died in the hospital. However, this information has not been confirmed.

The second interlocutor of "Caucasian Knot" reported that he continues to await confirmation of this information from other sources. Kutaev*, for his part, claims that the police officer who was stabbed is alive and is still in the hospital along with Tasuyev.

"Both are currently in the hospital," Kutaev said.

At present, information about the death of the police officer is not confirmed by the information available to "Caucasian Knot".

Chechen authorities did not comment on the attack

Official agencies in Chechnya and pro-government republican media did not report on the attack on a police officer in Gudermes and the subsequent detentions.

At the same time, on September 7 and 8, pro-government resources published other news about Gudermes. Chechen State Television and Radio Company "Grozny" reported on September 7 about Ramzan Kadyrov's assessment of the construction and development of the Gudermes district. The next day, "Grozny-inform" published a material titled "Ramzan Kadyrov: 'I can say nothing but good about Gudermes'". It discussed construction, the consequences of flooding, and the improvement of the city, but the attack on the police officer was not mentioned.

On the evening of September 8, Kadyrov held a meeting with the leaders of the security bloc of Chechnya. According to the report published by "Grozny-inform", issues of public safety and law and order, the work of Chechen units in Ukraine, and preventive work with youth were discussed. Following the meeting, Kadyrov instructed law enforcement agencies to maintain heightened vigilance and ensure safety in the republic. The report on the meeting also did not mention the attack in Gudermes.
