Defender of Zalina Alkhasova claims too severe sentence for her client

Zalina Alkhasova, who worked as an assistant to Lera Alkhasova, a representative of "victims of Chernobyl" from Kabardino-Balkaria in the courts, pleaded not guilty of fraud. She has made a decision to appeal against the verdict, her advocate reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 16, 2015, the case against Zalina Alkhasova, accused of fraud on a large scale, was sent to the court. According to investigators, the woman was involved in the embezzlement of budget funds in the amount of 256.8 million roubles, illegally paid through the court to the "victims of Chernobyl". Zalina Alkhasova was an assistant to lawyer Lera Alkhasova, who persuaded participants in liquidation of the Chernobyl NPP accident to file to courts the claims for compensation for moral damage. On October 3, 2016, it became known that the Nalchik City Court sentenced Zalina Alkhasova to four years of imprisonment and a fine of 200,000 roubles.

On August 14, 2015, Leila Dadueva, a former judge assistant, was sentenced on the charge of fraud with the money allocated for the "victims of Chernobyl".

The court has pronounced too severe sentence against Zalina Alkhasova, a niece of lawyer Lera Alkhasova, stated advocate Tatiana Psomiadi.

According to the advocate, the "victims of Chernobyl" did not testify against Zalina Alkhasova. They reported that Zalina was mainly engaged in serving tea and coffee or paper-pushing, said the advocate.

The defender believes that Zalina Alkhasova was not involved in the embezzlement of funds from the budget.
