Consideration of appeal against verdict in Said Amirov's case postponed until March 9
The Russian Supreme Court (SC) has postponed the consideration of the appeal filed by defendants sentenced in the criminal case against Said Amirov, the former Mayor of Makhachkala, until March 9. The decision has been made because of the absence of an interpreter and one of the advocates.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in July 2014, Said Amirov, the former Mayor of Makhachkala, was sentenced to ten years of imprisonment on the charge of plotting a terror act. In August 2015, Said Amirov was sentenced to life imprisonment in the case of the organization of assassinations. In September 2015, all the defendants in the case against Said Amirov, the former Mayor of Makhachkala, filed an appeal against the verdict to the Supreme Court of Russia.
Today, the Russian SC has started to consider the appeal filed against the verdict to the defendants. Said Amirov and Yusup Djaparov, kept at the North-Caucasian District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don, took part in the trial through video conference, the "Chernovik" (Draft) reports.
During the trial, the interpreter of Yusup Djaparov, who voiced his wish to testify in his native Dargin language, has stated that he is unable to carry out his functions, since he knows the Tsudakhari dialect, while the defendant speaks the Akusha dialect, the "Chernovik" reports.
