Request on Amur Khakulov's case sent to ECtHR

Representatives of Amur Khakulov, a convict in the case on the attack on Nalchik, have sent a request to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) to take urgent measures in connection with the deterioration of his health. Khakulov needs haemodialysis and takes pills, said his wife.

Amur Khakulov was sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment in the case of the attack on Nalchik. He was charged with the murder of a worker who was in a tower crane at the time of the attack. During the trial, according to the defence, it was found out that the man was out of sight of the attackers and was killed by a sniper.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that earlier the advocates and the wife of Amur Khakulov stated that he was seriously ill and could not withstand convoying to the colony. Doctors decided that Khakulov urgently needed haemodialysis, but the court refused to release him for medical treatment.

The request to the ECtHR was sent on February 12, said Diana Kostina, a lawyer of the project "Legal Initiative".

According to her story, earlier, on September 25, 2015, Amur Khakulov requested from the ECtHR application of immediate and urgent measures to provide medical help to him; and on the basis of that request, the ECtHR sent questions to Russian authorities about Khakulov's medical treatment.

"However, despite this, on January 28, 2016, an appeal judgement was passed on his case, which upheld the verdict almost completely," Diana Kostina told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

She added that at the moment Amur Khakulov is still at SIZO-1 (pre-trial prison) of Nalchik.
