"RBC": Chechnya under Ramzan Kadyrov is uneasy and unattractive for investors

For 9 years, during which Chechnya is led by Ramzan Kadyrov, the republic has received 539 billion roubles from the federal budget and got into the top three most subsidized regions of Russia. This is reported by the study prepared by the "RBC" and released today. Besides, Chechnya is distinguished by general unrest, paramilitary nature, and, meanwhile, the smallest number of divorces and the largest proportion of children in the country.

"Perhaps, the most well-known fact about the Chechen economy is the dependence of the republic's budget on the help of the federal centre. According to the Ministry of Finance, in 2014, payments from the federal budget comprised 81.6% of the budget of Chechnya. The highest figure 85.6% was shown by Ingushetia only," reports the study prepared and released by the "RBC".

In its study, the "RBC" calls Chechnya not attractive for investment and refers to RAEX ratings prepared by the agency "Expert RA". According to those ratings, in 2015, the republic was among the disadvantaged regions with insignificant investment potential and high risk, together with Ingushetia and Tyva.

Meanwhile, the study reports that Chechnya is "a giving birth, young, male republic" and notes that at the beginning of 2016, the population of the republic is 1.4 million, slightly less than 1% of the whole population of Russia. Chechnya registers lower number of divorces as compared with other regions of Russia: less than one divorce per 1000 of people, and according to the study, by this indicator, Ingushetia, Dagestan and Chechnya divide the last three places. The study also presents the data of the "Rosstat" (Russian Federal State Statistics Service) for 2014, according to which, Chechnya has the largest portion of children (people under working age) in Russia, i.e., 34.7% of the population.
