Abkhazia imposes sanctions on Turkey
The Government of Abkhazia has approved a list of restrictive measures to be imposed by Abkhazia against Turkey.
The resolution issued on January 15 and signed by Arthur Mikvabiya, Prime Minister of Abkhazia, approves the list of Turkish goods to be banned for import into the territory of Abkhazia starting from March 1, 2016.
Furthermore, Abkhazia temporarily prohibits the registration of new Turkish non-commercial organizations and suspends the activities of the already existing Turkish NGOs.
According to the resolution, it has been signed in accordance with the Agreement between the Republic of Abkhazia and the Russian Federation on alliance and strategic partnership, which stipulates the coordinated foreign policy.
The relations between Russia and Turkey have deteriorated sharply after on November 24, 2015, a Russian Su-24 bomber aircraft was attacked by the Turkish Air Forces at the border of Turkey and Syria. The Russian pilot was killed, and the flight navigator managed to survive. Russia has imposed special economic measures against Turkey, which prohibit the import of Turkish goods and charter flights between the countries and also impose restrictions on the work of Turkish citizens on the territory of Russia. Furthermore, the Russian Federation has unilaterally suspended the visa-free regime with Turkey.
