Member of rescuer team killed by avalanche in Sochi mountains

At the Sochi ski resort of Gornaya Karousel (Mountain Carousel), a staff member of an avalanche service, came under a snow avalanche. This was reported by the press service of the Department for the Krasnodar Territory of the Russian Ministry for Emergencies (MfE).

According to the MfE, on January 7, rescuers found a body of their colleague under the avalanche descended not far from Krasnaya Polyana.

The press service of the regional MfE has reported that on January 6, a helicopter took a team of 12 rescuers to the mountains to conduct search and rescue operations, the "Interfax-South" reports.

Till present, the name of the man and the detailed circumstances of his death have not been reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 5, the Georgian police reported the death of snowboarder Nugzar Diakonashvili who came under an avalanche in Bakuriani. In 2015, he became the champion of Georgia in Snowboard Cross. Nugzar Diakonashvili was training in the mountains to take part in the Winter Olympics in 2018.
