In Georgia, Azerbaijanis demand from police to find killer of their countryman
Azerbaijanis from the village of Soganlyg near Tbilisi have held a protest action against the spread of Wahhabism in connection with the murder of 23-year-old Fikret Akhmedov. According to the protesters, the murder took place on religious grounds.
According to Aivaz Mardanov, Mufti of the Georgian representative office of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) of the Caucasus, on January 2, Fikret Akhmedov, born in 1992, was stabbed and killed in the village of Soganlyg densely populated by Azerbaijanis.
The Mufti has also suggested that the crime was provoked by the interview given by Fikret Akhmedov, given to the Georgian "Imedi" TV Channel on December 27, 2015. According to Aivaz Mardanov, in the interview, Fikret Akhmedov claimed that in recent years, the number of radical Salafis (Wahhabis) in the village had increased, the "APA" reports.
"After that interview, Ramin Isaev, a resident of the same village, wanted to meet Fikret. They met near the secondary school of the village. They had a dispute, and as a result, Ramin Isaev stabbed Fikret Akhmedov. Earlier, they used to be close friends. Ramin Isaev was a follower of the Shiite concept of Islam, and then he joined a radical Wahhabi group. After committing the crime, Ramin Isaev fled," said Aivaz Mardanov.
Till present, the law enforcement bodies of Georgia do not confirm the Aivaz Mardanov's information about the involvement of villager Ramin Isaev in the murder.
