"New Armenia" calls to boycott referendum
The Front of National Salvation "New Armenia" has offered to residents of the country, instead of participating in the constitutional referendum, to go on strikes and strive for early presidential and parliamentary elections.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 12 at a press conference in Yerevan, Armen Martirosyan, the deputy head of the "Heritage" Party announced the creation of the Front of National Salvation "New Armenia". Its main goals, according to Martirosyan, are the dismissal of the incumbent president Serzh Sargsyan and the rejection of the proposed constitutional reforms.
At the October 29 press conference, Zaruhi Postanjyan, the head of the "Heritage" parliamentary faction, said that the changes to the Constitution initiated by the authorities should be ignored. "You just need to refuse to participate in the referendum," the "Caucasian Knot" quotes the MP as saying.
Postanjyan also said that a month before the scheduled referendum it is necessary to prepare the public for acts of civil disobedience. She added that acts of civil disobedience – strikes and pickets in the streets – are the only correct methods of fighting against the authorities.
