Dagestan: 19 persons suspected of involvement in IS

The Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) has launched an investigation into the criminal case against the alleged organizers and members of the community "Vilayat Dagestan of the Islamic State".

According to investigators, the community was founded by Rustam Aseldirov, also known under the nickname "Abu Mukhammad", and Gasan Abdullaev ("Abu Yasser") with the aim "to change the constitutional order of the Russian Federation, to break the territorial integrity, and to obtain financial and other material benefits."

The "Islamic State" (IS), earlier ISIL, has been recognized a terrorist organization and banned in Russia, USA, Turkey and other countries.

Investigators suggest that the above community is made up of groups, operating mainly in Southern Dagestan. The "Vilayat Dagestan" was financed by extorting money from businessmen and officials, as well from ransoms received by kidnapped people, the RIA "Novosti" reports with reference to a source from the Investigating Department for Dagestan of the ICRF.

The criminal case was initiated against 19 leaders and members of the community, the TASS reports.
