Law enforcers detain Chechen resident suspected of aiding and abetting IS

Law enforcers have detained a resident of the Vedeno District of Chechnya, suspected of rendering assistance to militants in Syria and attempting to form an armed grouping in Chechnya. This was reported by an official of the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that earlier, the police detained seven residents of the Vedeno District of Chechnya, suspected of an attempt to join the "Islamic State" (IS) and to recruit young people for taking part in the combat actions in Syria.

"On September 22, when checking the operational information in the village of Tsa-Vedeno of the Vedeno District, law enforcers detained a 29-year-old local resident. According to the law enforcement agencies, in autumn of 2014, he left for Turkey, and in the period of November 2014-July 2015, he was aiding and abetting militants on their way to Syria. In particular, he provided them with temporary housing," the Chechen MIA's official has reported.

According to the MIA's officer, Israpilov returned home several months ago.

"After his return to Chechnya, he tried to form a criminal grouping of his villagers and residents of the Vedeno District. At present, investigators are questioning him, and the issue of initiating a criminal case is under consideration," the source has stated.
