"Party of Veterans of Russia" wins in Buynaksk due to support of influential figures

The "Party of Veterans of Russia", which has won in Buynaksk at the elections to the City Assembly, is not affiliated with power bodies. This was reported by Dagestani journalists Magomed Magomedov and Milrad Fatulaev. Meanwhile, according to the journalists, the election results were contributed by the support granted to the "Party of Veterans of Russia" by influential figures from the region, including former City Mayor Osman Osmanov.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 13, the united voting day in Russia, a number of regions of Southern Russia and Northern Caucasus held elections of various levels. Residents of Buynaksk voted at the elections of deputies to the City Assembly. Observers reported the low voter turnout in the city, and the "Party of Veterans of Russia" claimed identification of seven violations committed during the voting. On the same day, the "Party of Veterans of Russia" claimed its victory at the elections with reference to the preliminary data. According to the final results announced later by the Election Commission for Dagestan, the "Party of Veterans of Russia" gained 68.8% of votes.

According to Magomed Magomedov, a political observer of the "Chernovik" (Draft), Buynaksk is the only municipality in Dagestan, in which the "Party of Veterans of Russia" nominated its candidates; and there, the Party itself united an active protesting part of the local residents, who claimed for power.

Magomed Magomedov has also noted that "despite its certain proletarian character, the Party is supported behind the scenes by some top-ranking officials of Dagestan and several well-known religious leaders of the republic."

The expert points out to the fact that the "Party of Veterans of Russia" not only gained its 68.8% of the votes at the elections, but it was also able to defend them, not allowing to steal or rewrite them in favour of other parties, as it often happened at the elections. "This is a key point of the elections and a significant event, apart from the fact that the Party gained a crushing victory over the 'Edinaya Rossiya' (United Russia) Party," Magomed Magomedov has emphasized.

According to Milrad Fatulaev, the director of the Regional Information Agency "Derbent", the "Party of Veterans of Russia" owes its participation in the pre-election campaign to Osman Osmanov, the former Buynaksk Mayor, who headed the city in 1997-2001, and members of the "Party of Veterans of Russia" intend to nominate Osman Osmanov for the post of the City Mayor.
