"Edinaya Rossiya" wins elections in Sochi
According to the preliminary reports on the voting at the elections to the Sochi City Assembly of the fifth convocation, members of the "Edinaya Rossiya" (United Russia) Party and self-nominated candidates from business and administrative agencies lead the race with great superiority.
Meanwhile, no single member of the parliamentary CPRF (Communist Party of the Russian Federation), the "Rodina" Party and the "Communists of Russia" Party was elected to the City Assembly. Viktor Filonov, Deputy Mayor of Sochi, is far ahead among the leaders.
Members of the CPRF headquarters expressed their surprise at the results of the voting. "At the electoral precinct No. 5 of the Khosta District, 4988 voters took part in the elections. Here, Dmitry Vasiliev, an unknown protege of the authorities, was nominated in contrast to his Igor Vasiliev, a well-known member of the CPRF. Thus, he defeated Igor Vasiliev by three votes," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Igor Siskevich, the head of the CPRF headquarters.
According to local residents, the low voter turnout can be explained by their lack of confidence in fair elections.
"All the same, no one will still take our opinion into account. The ruling party makes the choice for us prior to the elections. And then they play a show in front of us: however we vote, the result is the same," said Alexei Mochalov, who refused to vote, in his interview to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
