Court leaves three defendants in Nemtsov’s murder case in custody until November 28
The Basmanny Court of Moscow has granted the investigators’ petition to extend by three months the custody of Tamerlan Eskerkhanov, Shagid Gubashev and Khamzat Bakhaev.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the oppositional politician Boris Nemtsov was shot dead on February 27 in Moscow. According to official data, five natives of Chechnya and Ingushetia were detained in the context of the murder, namely: Zaur Dadaev, Anzor Gubashev, Khamzat Bakhaev, Tamerlan Eskerkhanov and Shagid Gubashev.
The investigator, who gave reasons for the custody extension, said that they believe that the defendants may escape from the trial, put pressure on witnesses, or destroy the evidence. He was supported by the prosecutor.
At the session, the defendants have again rejected their guilt; and their advocates asked to dismiss the investigators’ motion.
Judge Valentina Levashova upheld the above motion and ruled to extend the defendants’ custody until November 28.
