Three Chechen residents suspected of involvement in armed conflict in Syria

The law enforcement authorities of Chechnya suspect Ramzan and Magomed Yusupov, residents of the Shatoi District, and Anzor Uzuev, a native of Grozny, of involvement in the combat actions on the side of the "Islamic State".

According to the operational sources, the Yusupov brothers are in Syria since 2013, and Anzor Uzuev left for Syria in the spring of 2015 to take part on the side of the "Islamic State" (IS, earlier ISIL – Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. The organization recognized as terrorist in Russia, USA, Turkey, and a number of other countries, note of the "Caucasian Knot"). This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by a staff member of the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

According to the law enforcement bodies, during the recent weeks, law enforcers have identified seven residents of Chechnya, who are fighting in Syria on the side of the IS.

"They are 33-year-old Aslan Aidamirov, 28-year-old Magomed Diresov, 19-year-old Johar Makhauri, and 21-year-old Zelimkhan Manaev, residents of Grozny, 21-year-old Islam Yasaev, a resident of the Grozny District, 23-year-old Islam Chabaev, a native of the Urus-Martan District, and 29 year-old Magomed Uzuev, a resident of the Shatoi District," the MIA's official has stated. He has also noted that, according to the law enforcers, Magomed Uzuev is a close relative of Anzor Uzuev.

According to the Chechen MIA, since the beginning of warfare in Syria till June 2015, 405 people left Chechnya to take part in combat actions in the territory of Syria. Of them, 104 were killed in armed clashes with government forces, and the fate of 257 is still unknown.
