Residents of Dagestan report checks of drivers near Gimry Tunnel

As a result of enhanced security measures near the Gimry Tunnel, traffic through it highly complicated, local residents report. The checks have to do with a murder of an engineer in the Gunib District, said the police's spokesman.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Magomedgadji Zaidov, the Chief Engineer of the agricultural company "Sogratl", was killed on August 20 in the village of Nakazukh, Gunib District. Three armed men locked Zaidov's wife in the house; and then shot him dead.

As reported by a resident of the Untsukul District, an accumulation of vehicles near the Gimry Tunnel is observed all the day. According to his story, power agents inspect every entering and exiting car and all the male passengers. These measures are related to the murder of the engineer on August 20, he said.

The Gimry Tunnel has special significance, because it connects the mountainous regions of Dagestan with Buynaksk and other transport nodes, Khadizhat Nurudinova, a resident of the Untsukul District, has explained.

The information about checks of the vehicles passing through the tunnel was confirmed by an employee of the Untsukul ROVD (District Interior Division). According to his story, this is really connected with the murder in the Gunib District. He did not specify the information about the searched persons, noting only that they are members of the "Sogratl" militant grouping.
