New Derbent Mayor to restore order in utilities sector
The leaders of Derbent face the task to restore order in the utilities sector. To succeed in the task, the new Mayor should attract a team of professionals and mobilize city residents. This opinion has been expressed by experts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot".
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 11 the head of Derbent Imam Yaraliev terminated his duties before term on his own will. The post of the Acting Mayor of Derbent was offered to Gadjimet Safaraliev, a State Duma MP.
"The first thing the new Mayor should make is to try to consolidate the Derbent society... Yaraliev had a chance to become a political leader for the whole territory of Southern Dagestan; however, he failed to use that opportunity," states Magomed Khanmagomedov, a member of the Anti-Corruption Council "Ogni" (Lights).
Guseinbala Guseinov, the former Mayor of Derbent, also believes that the new Mayor should initially mobilize and organize the resident of Derbent.
"Being a resident of the city, I feel uncomfortable when volunteers from Makhachkala or from Chechnya come to our city and start a cleanup. The city population is 120,000 people, and we ourselves can clean up the city streets. All we need is only organization. However, the city administration fails to do any steps in this direction. Therefore, the main problem faced by the new city leader is staff. The people who worked with Yaraliev showed their incompetence," Guseinbala Guseinov has said.
