Russian Embassy in Turkey confirms detention of two natives of Northern Caucasus

The press attaché of the Russian Embassy in Turkey has confirmed the detention by the Turkish party of two natives of Northern Caucasus, when they tried to cross the border with Syria.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 21 a source from the Turkish police reported the detention in the province of Kilis of two natives of Chechnya suspected of involvement in the activities of the "Islamic State" (IS), treated as a terrorist organization. On July 22, a source from the protocol service of the Russian Embassy in Ankara said that they had no official information about the detention of any Chechen natives.

On July 23, the Russian Embassy in Ankara confirmed the detention in Turkey of two natives of Northern Caucasus.

In June 2013, the Chechen leadership admitted that residents of the republic were involved in the Syrian conflict. It was also reported that at war in the conflict zone there are from a few hundreds to 1700 natives of Chechnya.
