Rally against increased electricity tariff held in Yerevan
On Friday, about 150 persons gathered in Freedom Square to protest against the increase of the electricity tariff. The rally was organized by the initiative group "Arise, Armenia!"
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 16 the initiative group "Arise, Armenia!" formed a council from active participants in the two-week sit-in strike held in Bagramyan Avenue.
The group has identified two main areas of its struggle – the abolition of the decision to raise the tariff, and non-admission of adoption of constitutional reforms.
The organizers of the rally distributed leaflets among protesters, which indicate three ways to facilitate the movement, namely: participation in disobedience actions; dissemination of leaflets; and financial support of the initiative group.
As stated by David Sanasaryan, a member of the council, activists have divided their struggle into three stages; the first one plans to spread 600,000 leaflets across the country.
"On July 27, the initiative group will start the second stage: in particular, we'll block streets. At the third stage, we'll start our acts of disobedience, in the course of which we'll urge people not to pay their electricity bills," said David Sanasaryan, adding that the initiative group will also fight against constitutional reforms, which, in his opinion, are illegal.
