Sergey Kaziev refuses to stop hunger strike until the end of Ramadan

Magazali Endreev, the head of the Public Oversight Commission (POC) of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) has visited in the SIZO (pre-trial prison) of Nalchik a convict Sergey Kaziev, who is holding his hunger strike for more than a month.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 22, Sergey Kaziev, who had been sentenced to 14.5 years in prison, went on a hunger strike demanding to convoy him to his prison. Besides, as noted by his advocate, the law gives a chance to a convicted person, who is already serving his sentence in the prison, to apply for exemption from punishment on health reasons.

Kaziev says that he will go on with his hunger strike until his demand to convoy him to his prison is fulfilled, said Endreev.

Let us remind you that in the course of consideration of the attack on Nalchik committed on July 7, 2011, Kaziev was released from custody on recognizance not to leave because of his serious illnesses. He was brought back into the SIZO, after the verdict in the case was announced on December 23, 2014, at the Supreme Court of the KBR.

At the same time, on March 5, 2015, the Ministry of Public Health of the KBR stated that the convict had no diseases, preventing his keeping in custody. Kaziev refused to appeal against this decision.
