Rights defenders open exhibition of unpunished violence in Northern Caucasus

Today, the exhibition "The Never-Ending Story: Violence and Impunity in Northern Caucasus" was opened in Moscow today on the sixth anniversary of the murder of Natalia Estemirova.

The exhibition was prepared by the Czech non-governmental humanitarian organization "People in Need", which worked for many years in Northern Caucasus. The show presents, in artistic embodiment, 12 stories about people related to kidnappings, killings, facts of torture and fabrication of criminal cases. One of the stories is on the abduction and murder of Estemirova.

Within the opening ceremony of the exhibition, a roundtable is held with participation of human rights organizations.

Alexander Cherkasov, the Chairman of the Board of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", told about the inquiry process into Natalia Estemirova's murder. He criticized the investigators' version that a certain Alkhazur Bashaev, now on the international wanted list, was involved in the Estemirova's murder, adding that DNA profiles of Alkhazur Bashaev's brother and samples taken at the crime scene did not match.
