Four defendants in Said Amirov's case go on hunger strike
In Rostov-on-Don, at the trial in the case against Said Amirov, the former Mayor of Makhachkala, defendants claimed being subjected to pressure during their stay at the SIZO (pre-trial prison). To express their protest, four defendants in the case have announced the beginning of their indefinite hunger strike.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that starting from May 12, in Rostov-on-Don, the North-Caucasian District Military Court considers the main case against Said Amirov. Apart from the former Mayor of Makhachkala, the prisoners' dock also contains seven other persons, including three Akhmedov brothers, Murad Aliev, Yusup Djaparov, Magomed Kadiev, and Zubair Mutaev. At present, the Court questions witnesses for the prosecution.
According to Magomed Akhmedov, the eldest of the Akhmedov brothers, the defendants in the case against Said Amirov are subjected to pressure at the SIZO. "My younger brothers, one after another, are placed to an isolation ward for fabricated offences," Magomed Akhmedov has noted.
Defendant Zubair Mutaev has also announced his intention to declare a hunger strike on June 17.
In his turn, defendant Yusup Djaparov has claimed that he has filed complaints about the use of torture against him during two years of the preliminary investigation and got no response from judges and prosecutors.
