Khavazh Temirsultanov's defence demands to translate case materials into Chechen

An advocate of Khavazh Temirsultanov, a native of Chechnya, accused of robbing a pensioner in Sochi, has filed a complaint to the court. In the complaint, the advocate asks to oblige investigators to organize the translation of the materials of the criminal case against his client into Chechen language.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that starting from December 2014, Khavazh Temirsultanov is being kept in custody on charge of robbery. On May 5, the court for the fourth time extended the arrest of the defendant, this time until June 10. The defendant pleads not guilty.

On June 8, Alexander Boichenko, an advocate of Khavazh Temirsultanov, visited his client at the SIZO (pre-trial prison) in Sochi, where the defendant was brought from Armavir for participation in the upcoming court hearing on the extension of his detention. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Alexander Boichenko himself. According to the advocate, after the visit to his client, he filed a complaint to the court in accordance with Article 125 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation. The advocate's complaint challenges the actions of the investigator in charge of the case against Khavazh Temirsultanov.

In his complaint, the advocate notes that in accordance with Paragraph 3 of Article 18 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation, the investigative documents shall be presented to the defendant and "those documents should be translated into the native language of the defendant." According to Alexander Boichenko, "prior to that, the issue of the extension of detention in custody cannot be resolved."
