Man suspected of beating Sochi Vice-Mayor rejects accusations

Viktor Belevsky, a resident of the city of Essentuki, rejects the accusations that he had allegedly beat Sochi Vice-Mayor Evgeny Gorlov. According to Viktor Belevsky, he fell victim to false evidence.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 6, Sochi Vice-Mayor Evgeny Gorlov was hospitalized with brain concussion. The Mayor's Office has reported that the incident occurred when Evgeny Gorlov as a member of commission was verifying the connection of houses to the centralized sewerage system. The Vice-Mayor himself has claimed that he was attacked by a local resident. Evgeny Gorlov filed a complaint to the police about his beating.

The police assume that the official was attacked by Viktor Belevsky, a resident of the city of Essentuki; however, the city resident denies any involvement in the incident.

According to Viktor Belevsky, he arrived in Sochi to visit his daughter. She lives in a house, which was planned to be disconnected from the water supply. "I did not touch anyone. I just not allowed disconnecting the houses, since those two houses are inhabited by children, women, and persons with disabilities," Viktor Belevsky has said.

Viktor Belevsky has reported that at night of June 7, policemen visited him and took him away to the police station in Matsesta. There, he was questioned starting from 11:00 p.m. till 2:00 a.m. And then, he was released after he signed a recognizance to appear at the police station on June 8.

"I said that I never touch Gorlov and that I even did not know who he was. I also said that a false accusation was filed against me," Viktor Belevsky has stated.

Darya Belevskaya, the daughter of the man suspected of beating, has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that she witnessed the conflict and that her father did not beat Evgeny Gorlov.
