On May 25-31, at least three persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week from May 25 to May 31, 2015, the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus claimed at least three human lives; while no wounded persons were reported. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources. All the casualties are the persons, involved, according to law enforcement bodies, in the activities of the armed underground in Dagestan.

Attacks on law enforcers

On May 27, employees of federal security agencies, who conducted their operative-search actions in a forest some 1.5 km off the village of Akhnig in the Kurakh District of Dagestan, found three armed men in an abandoned building. Power agents offered them to lay down arms and surrender, but the men opened fire and were killed by response fire. Nobody among power agents was hurt.

On May 28, relatives of Zamir Pashaev, a resident of Derbent, who disappeared on May 18, identified him among those killed during a special operation. In their opinion, his body had traces of beating. According to relatives, the other two casualties of the special operation could be the residents of Derbent – Magomeddjavad Khizriev and Davud Sarukhanov, who disappeared on May 19.

Detentions

On May 24, in the village of Gikalo in the Grozny District of Chechnya, power agents detained a resident of the village of Kharsenoy of the Shatoy District. According to law enforcers, in 2011-2013, he supplied foodstuffs to the group of militants led by Tamerlan Larsanov, who was later killed in the Sunzha District of Ingushetia in February 2013.

On May 25, in the settlement of Yandi, located in the foothill Achkhoi-Martan District of Chechnya, employees of the local ROVD (District Interior Division) detained a 32-year-old man on suspicion of assisting a member of the armed underground. According to operative agents, the detainee confessed that in autumn of 2008 he supplied one of the militants with foodstuffs.

On May 27, in the village of Gvardeiskoe in the Nadterechny District of Chechnya, law enforcers detained two men suspected of aiding members of illegal armed formations (IAFs). The detainees confessed that in 2012-2014 the built camouflaged dugouts for militants and hid explosives.

On May 27, in Makhachkala, Kurban Askandarov was detained, who is a deputy imam of the mosque, which is attended by followers of the Salafi trend of Islam. On May 28, the apartment, where Askandarov lives with his wife, son and mother, a search was conducted, during which power agents confiscated a hunting rifle belonging to Askandarov. On May 29, the Sovietskiy District Court of Makhachkala granted the investigators' petition and arrested the deputy imam for 72 hours.
