Zaur Dadaev's advocate not allowed to defend his client in court

Today, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow has not allowed Evgeny Gubin to defend Zaur Dadaev, accused of killing the politician Boris Nemtsov.

Boris Nemtsov was killed in Moscow on February 27. Five persons, including Zaur Dadaev, Anzor and Shagid Gubashev, Khamzat Bakhaev and Tamerlan Eskerkhanov, were detained on suspicion of involvement in the murder and put under arrest.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the lawyer Evgeny Gubin was attracted by the "Committee against Torture" (CaT) to represent the interests of Zaur Dadaev, the main figurant in the murder case of Boris Nemtsov, who was shot dead in Moscow on February 27, after Dadaev complained of having been tortured. On April 13, Gubin filed a complaint against investigating authorities stating that he could not see his client for several weeks. The consideration of his complaint was scheduled for May 13.

The today's session was attended by many media people, Zaur's brother Shakhrudin Dadaev, a member of the CaT Sergey Babinets, as well as many third-party visitors, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has reported from the courtroom.

In his statement to the court, Evgeny Gubin focused on the fact that he "does not get into the criminal case on Nemtsov's murder as Dadaev's advocate."

"These are two different cases. Dadaev has the right to receive duly competent legal aid within the check of torture, held on Dadaev's request," Evgeny Gubin has concluded.

However, Judge Valentina Levashova dismissed his complaint.

Evgeny Gubin has announced his intention to challenge the decision of the Basmanny District Court of Moscow within ten days.
