Divers install cross at bottom of Mediterranean Sea in memory of victims of Armenian Genocide

In Lebanon, members of the diving club have installed a two-meter cross at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea in memory of Armenians killed during the genocide.

Residents of Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh, and the Armenian Diaspora marked the day of April 24 as the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire in 1915-1923. The year of 2015 marks the 100th anniversary since the beginning of that tragic event. On April 24, Yerevan hosted a torchlight procession. On April 23, Armenia canonized 1.5 million victims of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire in 1915-1923.

The action was held under the patronage of the Armenian Embassy in Lebanon and the Lebanese Commission for coordination of events dedicated to the 100^th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and the blessing of Nerses Petros, the Patriarch of the Armenian Catholic Church.

The cross-stone was placed at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea at a depth of 35 meters, the "aypoupen.com" reported on May 11.

The monument is dedicated to the Armenians, who in 1915 drowned in the seas or rivers in the Ottoman Empire, the "news.am" reports.

The cross has been installed by the "Octopus" diving club led by Andranik Haddad, a descendant of Armenians, who survived during the genocide, the "Armenpress" reports.
