Law enforcers present names of seven Chechen residents fighting in Syria

The Chechen law enforcement bodies managed to identify seven more residents of Chechnya involved in the combat actions in Syria. According to the law enforcers, they have also identified a native of the Vedeno District killed in Syria.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in June 2013, the Chechen leaders recognized the involvement of residents of the republic in the hostilities in Syria. It has been reported that the number of natives of Chechnya fighting in the region ranged from several hundreds to 1700 people.

The Chechen law enforcers have managed to detect the names of seven local residents, who in the period of 2014-2015 went to fight in Syria. This was reported by an official from one of the Chechen law enforcement bodies.

According to him, two of them "have left for Syria in February," and "the others are fighting in the ranks of Islamists since 2014." The law enforcers have also reported the death in Syria of Djabrail Miziev, a 25-year-old native of the Vedeno District of Chechnya.

"Djabrail Miziev arrived in Syria last spring. He was involved in the combat actions against government forces as a member of one of the criminal groupings. He was killed as a result of an armed clash, and he was buried in Syria," noted an official of one of the Chechen law enforcement bodies.

Various sources, including the Russian FSB, have confirmed that militants from Russia are fighting for the "Islamic State", says the document prepared by the "Caucasian Knot": "Caucasians in the ranks of IS (ISIL)".

According to the calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot", in the period from January 1, 2014, till April 25, 2015, at least 62 criminal cases have been instituted against residents of the NCFD regions, who are still fighting in the Middle East, and against citizens, who have returned to Russia from the territory of the armed conflicts in Syria and Iraq. The criminal proceedings were instituted against residents of Chechnya, Kabardino-Balkaria, Ingushetia, Dagestan, and the Stavropol Territory.

The "Caucasian Knot" monitors the impact of the events in the Middle East on the political and social life of the regions of southern Russia and Southern Caucasus, and it publishes materials on these topics in the pages of "Caucasus held at gunpoint by caliphate".
