Source from Khasavyurt GOVD: Gasanov attacked policemen

Shakhban Gasanov, who has been killed in Khasavyurt, was wounded during a shootout with policemen that occurred on March 25. This was reported by a source from the Khasavyurt GOVD (City Interior Division).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that during the special operation held on March 31, an apartment house was blocked in Datuev Street. The blocked apartment belonged to Shakhban Gasanov, the leader of the "Kizlyar" militant grouping, who was killed during the assault, the Russian National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC) reports.

According to the preliminary information, Shakhban Gasanov was involved in the attack on policemen in Khasavyurt on March 25. As a result of the shootout, one of the attackers was killed at the place, and the other one died of gunshot wounds in a hospital. The killed men were identified as Murad Mikhralov, born in 1987, and Shamkhal Salatkhanov, born in 1994, members of a terrorist grouping.

Shakhban Gasanov managed to escape after the attack on the police; however, he was wounded in the shootout, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by a source in the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for Dagestan.

In 2012, relatives of Shakhban Gasanov complained to rights defenders of the Dagestani Regional Public Organization (DRPO) "Pravozaschita" (Advocacy) about pressure from the law enforcement agencies. On July 16, 2012, Shakhban Gasanov was detained on suspicion of involvement in the armed underground. In 2012, Shakhban Gasanov was sentenced to two years of imprisonment and was released in 2014. According to the NAC, after that, he started hiding from the police, led a grouping of militants, and then swore to the "Islamic State" (IS), which was recognized in Russia as a terrorist organization.
