In Sochi, about 200 people attend rally against infill construction

On March 28, starting from 2:00 till 4:00 p.m., Kudepsta hosted a sanctioned rally against the infill construction of Sochi. Participants of the protest action have signed a resolution demanding from the Governor of the Krasnodar Territory to conduct an audit of the activities of staff members of the Sochi administration.

According to the police, the protest action, which was attended by about 200 people, took place without incidents. The protestors came to the rally with posters in their hands reading: "Sochi residents against the tyranny of the city authorities!", "Stop corruption!", "Point construction is an architectural genocide, not development!", and "No concrete jungle!"

The protesters have claimed that they treat as abuse of power the facts that the city administration issue permits for construction of high-rise buildings of infill construction.

"The fertile land of Sochi is covered with concrete. At present, instead of parks, gardens, and squares, we got reinforced-concrete monsters for sale, under the guise of buildings for volunteers and Olympic settlers. However, no volunteers lived in those buildings. And no Olympic settlers live there now," said at the rally Natalia Kalinovskaya, the Chair of the local self-government unit (known as TOS) "Psou". She has also proposed to seek for the creation of a government commission to check" who owns the buildings for Olympic settlers."
