Stavropol Territory pays tribute to victims of 2001 terror acts

The Stavropol Territory has organized events to mark the 14th anniversary of the terror acts committed in the cities of Yessentuki and Mineralnye Vody in 2001.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 24, 2001, at about the same time, terrorists blew up three passenger cars: at the entrance to the Central Market in Mineralnye Vody, near registration and examination department (RED) of the road police (known as GIBDD) in Yessentuki of the Stavropol Territory, and near the police station in the village of Adyge-Khabl of Karachay-Cherkessia. 28 persons were killed, and more than 150 others were injured. In 2003, organizers and offenders who committed the terror acts were sentenced to long terms of imprisonment.

Yesterday, in the city of Mineralnye Vody, people laid flowers at the memorial to the victims of the terror act, the press service of the city administration reports.

"The terror act killed 21 persons and injured about 100 others. For a small city like Mineralnye Vody, it was a great loss," noted the spokesman of the press service.

According to him, the ceremony was attended by several dozen residents of the city, including members of NGOs, war veterans, MPs, and ordinary citizens. And after the ceremony of laying flowers and wreaths, people shared memories of those city residents, who fell victims to the terror acts, the "Interfax" reports.

The actions of memory also took place in other towns of the Stavropol Territory.
