In Grozny, law enforcers inspect mobile phones of young people, local residents report
In the afternoon on March 23, in the Chechen capital, near the shopping centre (SC) "Berkat", law enforcers carried out a massive inspection of mobile phones belonging to young people. This was reported by local residents.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 23, the republic celebrated the 12th anniversary of the adoption of the new Constitution of Chechnya.
According to Isa, a member of a local NGO, such events are regularly held in the Chechen capital.
"Law enforcers seize mobile phones of young people and then check all the entries. In case if a mobile phone contains something on the theme of war in Syria, or a video record of Caucasian militants, or something like that, then an owner of the mobile phone will face serious troubles. In the best case, a person will be brought to the law enforcement unit that responsible for that 'special operation', and there, the person will have to take part in a discussion with the participation of a mullah. And in the worst case, an owner of a mobile phone can be beaten and accused of sympathizing 'shaitans' (devils)," the social activist states.
When commenting on the situation, a member of the Chechen Advocates' Chamber has expressed his doubts about the legality of such actions of law enforcers.
