Grozny Vice-Mayor dismissed after inspection of school destroyed in militants' attack

Not all the necessary equipment has been purchased for the reconstruction of the school No. 20 in Grozny, which suffered in an attack of militants. This was found out by the inspection carried out under the supervision of the leader of Chechnya. As a result, the Chief of the Department of Education, the Deputy Mayor of Grozny, was dismissed.

At night on December 4, 2014, militants attacked Grozny law enforcers; and the central part of the city was put under the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime. As a result of armed clashes, the House of Press and School No. 20 were seriously damaged. The school building was completely restored on the eve of the New Year, on January 31. The solemn reopening of the renovated House of Press was held on December 25 last year.

On March 17, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov carried out the inspection at the school No. 20. "The inspection was carried out after someone from the school staff complained to the Chechen leader that the equipment disappeared from the school," the "Caucasian Knot" was told by an official from the Ministry of Education and Science for Chechnya.

According to the official, in fact, they did not find furniture and equipment at the school canteen and assembly hall. "The principal has explained that furniture and equipment for the canteen and assembly hall was delivered prior to the visit of Sergey Melikov, the Envoy to the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), and later, all the equipment was withdrawn. When asked about the disappearance of the school furniture, Lema (Kupri) Bersanukaev, the Chief of the Department of Education for Grozny, has said that it was temporary delivered from the school No. 61 and returned there later," stated the official from the Ministry of Education.

"It was revealed that, despite the allocation of the funds required for the purchase of equipment and other things necessary to rebuild the school, furniture for the school canteen and assembly hall were not actually purchased. Bersanukaev was dismissed from his position, and the law enforcement agencies are instructed to conduct an investigation into the case and institute criminal proceedings," reported the official from the Ministry of Education.
