NATO states non-recognition of Russian-South-Ossetian alliance treaty

As stated by Jens Stoltenberg, the NATO Secretary General, the cooperation treaty, signed by Russia and South Ossetia, undermines security in the region.

Let us remind you that today in Moscow, Presidents Vladimir Putin and Leonid Tibilov have signed a Russian-South-Ossetian alliance and integration treaty.

"The NATO does not recognize the so-called alliance and integration treaty concluded on March 18 by the South-Ossetian region of Georgia and Russia," said Jens Stoltenberg. According to his version, this Russia's act "undermines the international community's efforts to strengthen security and stability in the region."

According to the NATO's leadership, the new Russian-South-Ossetian treaty violates the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia and is grossly contrary to the principles of the international law and of the OSCE, as well as Russia's international obligations. "This is not conducive to a peaceful and lasting settlement of the situation in Georgia," the portal "Nato.rf" quotes the Secretary General as saying.
