Rights defenders find no traces of torture in suspects of Nemtsov's murder

Members of the Public Oversight Commission (POC) have visited the SIZO (pre-trial prison) "Lefortovo" and found no traces of beatings in the three detainees for the murder of Boris Nemtsov, said Anton Tsvetkov, the head of the Moscow POC. Rights defenders have also rejected the claims of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) that they intervene into the investigation of the crime.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that, according to official data, five persons are in custody in the context of Boris Nemtsov's murder. On March 8, the Basmanny Court of Moscow sanctioned the arrest of Zaur Dadaev, Anzor Gubashev, Khamzat Bakhaev, Tamerlan Eskerkhanov and Shagid Gubashev. Dadaev and Anzor Gubashev have been charged with the murder. On March 10, the Gubashev brothers and Dadaev told the members of the POC, who visited them in "Lefortovo", that they were tortured after detention.

"We fixed no signs of torture and beatings. The information about the use of torture does not inspire confidence. There is no threat to the lives and health of Zaur Dadaev and brothers Anzor and Shagid Gubashev," the TASS quotes Tsvetkov as saying.

However, he refused to make definite conclusions, emphasizing that the information should be carefully checked by investigators.

"They have no complaints; and they need no medical care," Anton Tsvetkov has concluded, adding that all the three continue denying their guilt.
