About 20 PAP members detained in Yerevan
On February 17, in the central office of the "Prosperous Armenia" Party (PAP) in Yerevan, about twenty persons were detained, said the party. According to the police, the detentions followed the information about a brawl.
According to Vahan Karapetyan, an MP from the PAP fraction, who contacted the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, the detainees were brought to the police from the central office of the party in the Achapnyak District of Yerevan. According to his story, David Tovmasyan, the head of the office, was also detained.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent received confirmation about the detention from the police. According to their version, they received a report "about a brawl in Alabyan Street; and policemen were sent there."
"At the moment, 19 detainees are kept at the police station," a police source has concluded.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 16, several PAP activists were detained in Yerevan. The party issued a statement accusing authorities of pressure. In their turn, the police state the absence of political motives in the detentions.
