Relatives of South-Ossetians kept in Gldani ask OSCE to attract Georgian authorities' attention to their problems

On February 16, Angelo Gnaedinger, the co-chairman of the Geneva discussions from the OSCE, met relatives of citizens of South Ossetia, who were for three weeks on the indefinite hunger strike at the Gldani prison in Georgia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 26, together with other inmates of the Gldani prison No. 8 in Georgia, three citizens of South Ossetia, including Georgy Zasseev, Georgy Valiev, and Iosif Kochiev, went on indefinite hunger strike, demanding to reconsider the verdicts and conduct objective investigations of their cases. As of February 10, 46 prisoners were on the hunger strike.

According to Lyudmila Usovich, the mother of Georgy Zasseev, the co-chairs of the Geneva discussions promised to "talk to the competent representatives of the authorities" and to bring to them the requests of relatives of the prisoners.

"The most important thing we asked for was to send representatives of the authorities, including the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights and the Georgian Ombudsman's Office, to visit the prisoners. Further, it will become clear whether they succeed in the mission. However, we asked them not to play for time," the "Echo of the Caucasus" quotes Lyudmila Usovich as saying.
