Two hunger-strikers in Novolak District of Dagestan receive health care

The health status of two women – Zumrud Gazieva and Salikhat Bagirchaeva – who are hunger-striking in the village of Shushiya, Novolak District of Dagestan, has deteriorated because of increased blood tension; doctors gave emergency care to them.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 10 Shushiya villagers resumed their hunger strike. In was initially announced on December 23, 2014, and suspended on the following day, after Gadji Aidiev, the district head, promised to return the land plots, which had been given into lease to the Agrarian-Production Cooperative (APC) "Almaz", back to villagers. The hunger strike takes place in an uninhabited and unheated house located in the outskirt of the village; and initially there were 15 hunger-strikers.

Currently, 11 of them continue their protest, said Elmira Bagirchaeva, one of them. She added that today the house was disconnected from electric power and gas supply with no explanation. "I think it was done by the order of the district head; however, the owner of the house made a connection line from the neighbours and brought a gas cylinder; so, it's all OK with us," said Bagirchaeva.

The woman said that the action will continue until the authorities start returning land plots to villagers.

Let us note here that earlier the above district boss Gadji Aidiev treated the hunger-strike of Shushiya villagers as senseless. According to his version, the resettlers' problems are gradually resolved.
