Derbent Board of Elders states support of Imam Yaraliev

In Derbent, the Lezgin Theatre is hosting an emergency session of the city Board of Elders. Its members have expressed support for the head of the city Imam Yaraliev and urged residents not to yield to provocations.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the convocation of the emergency session of the Board of Elders was caused by the pressure on the city administration and attempts to disrupt the celebrations of the 2000th anniversary of Derbent, said Nariman Ramazanov, one of the organizers of the session.

The session is attended mainly by Azerbaijani, Tabasaran and Lezgin nationals, as well as by Zulfukar Gasanov, the head of the Derbent Board of Veterans, Muradkhan Rabadanov, an assistant to the head of the city, Vladimir Krylov, the chairman of the Board of Elders.

Some people are deliberately pumping up the socio-political situation in Derbent, while the Mayor Imam Yaraliev does a lot to duly get ready for the anniversary, said Misri Misriev, a member of the Public Chamber of Derbent.

Zulfukar Gasanov, the Chairman of the Derbent Board of Veterans, also believes that interethnic issues are escalated in the city, in order "hamper Yaraliev's efforts."

The speakers at the session have called on people "not to yield to provocations."
