Picketers hand out leaflets about activities of Navalny to Astrakhan townspeople

On January 21, in Astrakhan, ten supporters of Alexei Navalny held an information picket. It was sanctioned by the authorities; and there were no incidents during the two-hour action.

On July 18, 2013, Alexei Navalny, known for his active struggle against corruption in state procurements, including in Northern Caucasus, was sentenced to five years in prison on charges of embezzlement of the property of the state-owned "Kirovles" Company. On October 16, 2013, the Kirov Regional Court changed the real sentence to Alexei Navalny for the conditional one. On December 30, 2014, on charges of embezzling 26 million roubles from the Company "Yves Rocher Vostok", Alexei Navalny was sentenced to 3.5 years of conditional imprisonment; and his brother Oleg – to the same term of real imprisonment.

The picket was attended not only by members of the "Progress Party", but also other supporters of Alexei Navalny.

"Having learnt about what happens now with him and his family, I just couldn't miss the action. We shan't keep quiet about it," Yaroslav Savin, one of the picketers, said in his interview to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Mikhail Doliev, the organizer of the picket and a member of the "Progress Party", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that during two pickets in January they disseminated "over 500 informational leaflets."
