Dagestan reopens investigation into Sapiyat Magomedova's beating

The investigation into the criminal case on beating of Sapiyat Magomedova by policemen has been reopened at her request. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Sapiyat Magomedova herself.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that, according to advocate Sapiyat Magomedova, who was involved in numerous resonant trials in Dagestan, on June 17, 2010, she was beaten by two staff members of the Khasavyurt GOVD (City Interior Division). The policemen claimed that it was the advocate who attacked them. The criminal proceedings were instituted against both sides. Later, they were combined into a single criminal case and eventually closed. In April, the Supreme Court of Dagestan pronounced the decision to reopen the investigation. On September 1, Sapiyat Magomedova filed a complaint to the Investigating Committee. In her complaint, the advocate reported on the intentional delay of fulfilment of the resolution of the Supreme Court.

Today, Sapiyat Magomedova said that on September 30, she was informed of the fact that the Investigating Department for Dagestan reopened the investigation into the criminal case on the fact of her being beaten. "I was informed about it just yesterday. The very document reporting on reopening of the investigation into the criminal case bears the date of September 29," Sapiyat Magomedova has emphasized.
