During week of June 9-15, 2014, 12 persons perished in armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week of June 9-15, 2014, 12 persons were killed and 2 persons were wounded in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. These are the results of calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The death toll includes, according to the law enforcement agencies, 11 suspected members of the armed underground, including seven in Kabardino-Balkaria and four in Dagestan, and one civilian killed in the Stavropol Territory.

Attacks on law enforcers

On June 9, Khanmirza Ashurbekov, a resident of Makhachkala, disappeared. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the Republic of Dagestan (RD), on June 9, on the Buynaksk-Untsukul highway, in the Buynaksk District of Dagestan, policemen tried to check a parked Kia Sorento car. However, the man sitting in the car opened fire on them and was killed by return fire. According to law enforcers, the killed man was identified as Khanmirza Ashurbekov.

According to his family members, Khanmirza Ashurbekov was not involved in anything unlawful. The law enforcers paid attention to him, since he was a follower of the Salafi trend of Islam.

On June 9, staff members of the road-and-patrol service (known as DPS) made an attempt to stop a VAZ-2114 car to check documents near the city of Baksan in Kabardino-Balkaria. However, persons in the car opened fire on the policemen. During the armed clash, an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated in the car. As a result, four suspected member of armed underground in the car were killed in the explosion.

On June 11, in Makhachkala, an unidentified man opened fire on police patrol in Gadjiev Street. The attacker was killed by return fire. The killed man has been preliminary identified as Islam Kichev, a resident of Makhachkala, a member of the subversive and terrorist grouping, which operated in the Gunib District of Dagestan.

Special and counterterrorist operations

On June 12, a regime of counterterrorist operation (CTO) was introduced within the territory bounded by villages of Shardakovo, Svetlovodskoe, Zolskoe, and Zalukodes of the Zolskoe District of Kabardino-Balkaria. During the special operation conducted on the outskirts of the village of Svetlovodskoe, law enforcers stumbled on three suspected members of an illegal armed formation (IAF). When offered to surrender, the militants opened fire and wounded two soldiers of the interior troops of the Russian MIA. The suspected militants were killed in the armed clash.

Bombings and terror acts

On June 9, on the Kupa-Gunib highway in the Gunib District of Dagestan, a Lada car blew up. As a result, two persons were killed. One of the victims was identified as Mukhtar Agaev, a resident of the village of Sogratl.

At the place of explosion, law enforcers found components of an explosive device. It is likely that the killed men were transporting an IED, and it detonated accidentally.

Attacks on civilians

On June 13, Zamir Taibov, a resident of the village of Tukui-Mekteb of the Neftekumsk District of the Stavropol Territory, disappeared. According to his family members, on that day, Samir Taibov was summoned by FSB agents for a conversation. Zamir Taibov left for the meeting with the FSB agents. After that, no information about him has ever been reported.

Residents of the aul (village) of Tukui-Mekteb organized the people's gathering in connection with the Zamir Taibov's disappearance. The people's gathering was attended by staff members of the Neftekumsk ROVD (District Interior Division). They reported that not far from the Stepnovsky checkpoint, law enforcers had found a body of a bearded man with a bullet wound to the head. The relatives of Zamir Taibov went to identify the body. They identified the victim as disappeared Zamir Taibov.

Detentions

On June 13, in Makhachkala, not far from Gagarin Street, Ramazan Magomedov, a local resident, was kidnapped and taken away to some unknown destination. He was forced out of a car. Then, attackers began to beat him on his head with butt stock, forced him into their car and taken away to some unknown destination.

On June 14, it was reported that Ramazan Magomedov was detained and kept at the Soviet ROVD of Makhachkala. According to his advocate, the Ramazan Magomedov's body bears obvious signs of torture.
