Sochi Mayoralty is obliged to provide Akhshtyr villagers with drinking water, experts assert

The Sochi authorities are obliged to ensure the supply of water to residents of the village of Akhshtyr, which is a part of the municipality. During five years, the Akhshtyr villagers are deprived of normal water supply. This opinion was expressed by human rights defenders, ecologists and lawyers, questioned by the "Caucasian Knot".

Let us remind you that on May 25, about 60 resident of the village of Akhshtyr in Sochi held a gathering, in which they reported the absence of the official response of the authorities to repeated complaints about the unresolved problems with the water supply to the village and the bad environmental situation.

"The Law 'On Local Self-Administration' and the city charter oblige the municipal authorities to provide the city residents with public services, and, especially, such vital ones, as water supply," advocate Igor Kurochkin has commented on the situation to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Ecologist Vladimir Kimaev has treated the situation in Akhshtyr as "lawlessness".

"The authorities are obliged to provide people with drinking water. Otherwise, the situation turns into a disaster created by the authorities themselves. I intend to submit an appeal to the city administration demanding to hold a roundtable on situation in Akhshtyr," Vladimir Kimaev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
