A resident of Dagestan was convicted for preparing a terrorist act and calls for extremism.

The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Rovshan Selimov to five years in prison, finding him guilty of preparing a terrorist act, publicly calling for extremism, and desecrating the State Flag of Russia.

According to the court, on February 21, 2025, the defendant, while at his residence in the village of Mugarty in the Derbent district, published video material containing calls for violent actions against law enforcement officers, as well as against individuals who do not profess the Islamic religion.

On March 18, Selimov, while on the territory of the Great Patriotic War Memorial located in the village, removed the State Flag installed at the memorial, took it to his residence, where on the same day he trampled it underfoot, the Southern District Military Court reported today on its page on "VKontakte."

The defendant filmed these actions with his mobile phone camera, and also posted the corresponding video online along with a photograph of the memorial with the flag already missing.

On April 2, Selimov transported the flag from his residence to an unfinished building, doused it with gasoline, and set it on fire, filming the entire process with his mobile phone camera, and also posted the video online.

In addition, from March 10 to April 4, he corresponded with a user account, during which they discussed jointly committing a terrorist act in April in the territory of Makhachkala. This account was controlled by security agencies.

In particular, on March 28, the defendant sent instructions for making a homemade incendiary device to this account, as well as an audio message about the need to choose one of the gas supply facilities in Makhachkala for arson. On April 4, Selimov confirmed his readiness to commit the arson in the correspondence.

As a result, the defendant was found guilty and sentenced to five years in a strict regime correctional colony, with the first two years to be served in prison.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that a resident of Karabudakhkent, who cut and threw 15 red flags on the ground before Victory Day in 2024, was sentenced to community service for rehabilitating Nazism.
