In Azerbaijan, court begins consideration on merits in case of riots in Ismailly
The Sheki Court of Serious Crimes of Azerbaijan began to consider on the merits the criminal case on the riots in Ismailly. On the first day of the court session, journalists were not allowed to enter the courtroom.
The prisoners' dock contains 18 persons, including 16 residents of the Ismailly District, Ilgar Mamedov, the leader of the civil movement "Republican Alternative" (ReAl), and Tofiq Yagublu, Deputy Chairman of the "Musavat" Party. All the defendants are kept in custody.
At the trial, advocates filed motions. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Fuad Agaev, the Ilgar Mamedov's advocate.
"In particular, we have filed a motion to exclude from the evidence list the statements of witnesses, who gave false evidences against Ilgar Mamedov. They slandered Ilgar Mamedov, and, meanwhile, they did not recognize him during the confrontation procedure," Fuad Agaev has said.
Furthermore, the defence filed motions to question additional witnesses, who can confirm that Ilgar Mamedov did not commit any unlawful acts. Fuad Agaev has also file a motion to change arrest to another pre-trial restriction measure not related to detention in custody.
"The Judge did not grant or dismiss the motions. He just left the motions unconsidered, although at that stage, he was to make specific decisions," Fuad Agaev has noted.
The advocate has reported that the next court session is scheduled for December 10.
