Sedrak Kocharyan has been placed in the "Yerevan-Kentron" isolation facility, where he is held in a solitary cell. The defense intends to appeal his arrest, the lawyer stated.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on August 26, the Anti-Corruption Court arrested Sedrak Kocharyan for two months. The day before, he was detained as part of a criminal case on corruption.

Sedrak Kocharyan was taken to the "Yerevan-Kentron" detention facility, "Voice of Armenia" reported today, citing his lawyer Alexander Kochubaev.

"He is supposed to be held in a solitary cell; we will visit him in the evening," the publication quoted the lawyer's words.

The defense intends to appeal the arrest decision. Kochubaev told reporters outside the courthouse that he considers the criminal prosecution illegal and politically motivated. "It can only be noted that we are dealing with illegal prosecution that has a political context," Kochubaev said, whose words were quoted today by Yerevan.Today.

The Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia has charged Sedrak Kocharyan with money laundering in especially large amounts, as well as complicity in abuse of office and receiving bribes in especially large amounts, reported the Armtimes.com website on August 25, citing the press service of the agency.

It should be noted that it was previously reported that Robert and Sedrak Kocharyan were detained in a corruption case. The investigation claims that during Robert Kocharyan's presidency, a number of state property objects were acquired at undervalued prices, and part of the property and shares of companies were used to receive bribes and were registered in the names of his family members.

On August 25, it became known that within the framework of this same criminal case, charges were brought against former Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan, and criminal prosecution has been initiated against nine other individuals.
